Biography
Jonathan was first drawn to working with metal during a three year
advanced art and design course at the Oxford and Cherwell College. During these three years he became increasingly
interested in working with metal and the vast possibilities that this
versatile material can offer, soon realising that this was a
material he wanted to continue to work with.
His
university degree at the Birmingham School of Jewellery covered a three
year period focusing on jewellery and smithing techniques and
during this time he was able to develop his interest in working to a
larger scale and soon discovered his interests lie within silversmithing. In 2007 Jonathan completed
the course with a first class bachelor
of arts degree.
In
2008 he completed his Masters degree with distinction at the
Birmingham School of Jewellery. This intense one year course enabled him
to focus on various new smithing techniques and introduce a range of new
materials to
his collection of work.
During his Masters degree, Jonathan was awarded a travel scholarship
through the Louisa Anne Ryland award which enabled him to be accepted as
an artist in residence at the Sydney College of Art, Australia. This was
a truly inspiring trip which has allowed him to make international
contacts and time to develop his collection.
Following his return, Jonathan continues to exhibit nationally and
internationally making contemporary fine metalwork for the home
environment.
